Since 2005, I have experimented with recipes in “Nourishing Traditions,” a cookbook incorporating Dr. Price’s findings. I have made my own butter, cultured buttermilk, kefir (all from raw, fresh farm milk); kombucha (tea); lacto-fermented Korean sauerkraut (kim chee); baked custard; raw-cure (low temperature) dried fruits and beef jerky. From the Farmers Market, I enjoy free-range eggs, no-nitrate bacon, decent tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, strawberries, pecans, Swiss chard. Attempting to replicate some of the dishes my grandma Woolf served in Marcella’s childhood-I find gratifying.
